The Canora Atom Black Cobras hosted a hockey tournament on December 8-10, and came away victorious in the A-side championship game.
In addition to the host team, the tournament included three Yorkton Terrier teams and the Raymore Rockets, said Kristen Kelbaugh, Cobras’ representative.Â
Each team played four round-robin games to determine if it would advance to the A or B finals.
On December 8 the Cobras lost a hard-fought battle 3-2 against the Yorkton Richardson Terriers before defeating Yorkton UCT Terriers 6-4 and Yorkton Western Financial Terriers 8-4 on December 9. Yorkton Western Financial Terriers went on to win the B-side banner, defeating the Yorkton UCT Terriers. The Cobras also won the pizza shootout, said Kelbaugh.
On December 10 the Cobras defeated the Raymore Rockets 14-2 to clinch a spot in the A final.Â
In a close and exciting championship game, Canora had another opportunity to take on the Yorkton Richardson Terriers. The Cobras avenged the earlier loss and worked together as a team to defeat the Terriers with a 6-3 victory, winning the A-side banner. The coaches were very proud of the players for their teamwork, said Kelbaugh.    Â
The tournament was well attended and received by the visiting coaches and players, said Kelbaugh.Â
The Atom Black Cobras appreciate the support of the team’s sponsors and everyone who attended the tournament. Â
