Canora and Invermay athletes participate in district track-and-field competition

Athletes from Canora Composite School (CCS) and Invermay School fared well at the district track-and-field competition in Yorkton on May 24-25. In bantam girls, Faith Mickelson of CCS finished fifth in the 100-metre dash with a time of 14.

Athletes from Canora Composite School (CCS) and Invermay School fared well at the district track-and-field competition in Yorkton on May 24-25.

            In bantam girls, Faith Mickelson of CCS finished fifth in the 100-metre dash with a time of 14.74 seconds, third in the long jump at 3.97 metres, and third in the triple jump at 8.52 metres.

            In the peewee girls 100-metre dash, Lexi Biletski was third at 15.78 seconds, and Elley Tomcala came in sixth at 15.99 seconds. In the high jump, Biletski was sixth at 1.28 metres, while Tomcala finished in an eighth place tie with a leap of 1.25 metres. Biletski picked up a fifth in the long jump at 3.77 metres.

            In the peewee girls triple jump, Zoe Thomas finished seventh at 8.14 metres. Hayley Parmley finished fifth in the shot put at 7.87 metres, while Kailey Sleeva finished ninth at 7.08 metres. In the discus, Sleeva was sixth at 16.87 metres.

            In the senior girls 3,000 metre run, Abby Gulka came in third at 15:14.52.

            In junior girls triple jump, Jensen Gabora was fifth with a distance of 8.59 metres. Rebecca Hort won three different junior girls events, including the long jump with a distance of 4.32 metres, the 80-metre hurdles with a time of 14.50 seconds, and the 100-metre dash with a time of 13.80 seconds. Hort placed second in the 200 metres with a time of 29.62 seconds.

            Hort was first in the junior girls aggregate with a total of 38 points. The aggregate winners are the athletes who have accumulated the most points for their events in their age group. 

            Midget, junior and senior athletes that place first or second in their event qualify for provincials. From Canora, Hort advances in long jump, 100m, 200m, and 80m hurdles, and was also chosen to be on the 4x100m relay team for provincials. 

            In the boys events, Jacob Gulka of CCS placed sixth in the bantam 1,500-metre run with a time of 5:50.95. Alden Baron finished sixth in the long jump at 4.28 metres, while Grady Wolkowski was 10th at 3.91 metres.

            Wolkowski finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 25.03 metres, and fifth in the shot put at 9.52 metres, ahead of Baron who was seventh at 9.41 metres. Jacob Gulka came in ninth in the triple jump at 8.80 metres.

            In the peewee boys 200-metre dash, Clay Sleeva finished second with a time of 28.46 seconds, and second in the 100 metres at 14.08 seconds, ahead of Hudson Bailey, who came in fifth at 14.49 seconds.

            Sleeva won the 400 metres on a time of 1:04.97, while Dawson Zuravloff was fourth at 1:09.98. Bailey won the 800-metre run at 2:29.34 and Zuravloff finished third with a time of 2:45.11.

            Zuravloff was third in the 3,000-metre run with a time of 11.51.27, and finished second in the 1,500 metres at 5:37.21, while Jake Statchuk came in seventh at 6:36.11.

            Matthew Dmitruik finished 10th in the discus with a distance of 15.52 metres.

            Hudson Bailey was first in the high jump by clearing 1.43 metres, and also won the long jump with a distance of 4.44 metres.

            In the peewee boys division, Bailey won the aggregate with 34 points, while Clay Sleeva finished in a second-place tie with 26 points.

            In the midget boys 400-metre dash, Jessie Biletski was fifth with a time of 1:09.74.

            In the senior boys events, Nathan Bucsis finished second in the 400-metre dash with a time of 58.49 seconds, second in the 3,000-metre run at 10:51.92, and third in the 800-metre run with a time of 2:20.36.

            Bucsis advances to provincials in 3,000m, 400m and 800m.  He placed third in the 800m but one of the other athletes couldn't go to provincials so he is next on the list. Bucsis was chosen as an alternate on the provincial senior boys 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams.

            A number of athletes from Invermay School competed at the Yorkton event. In bantam girls, Sydney Fey placed ninth in the triple jump at 7.31 metres, 11th in discus at 13.63 metres, and 13th in long jump at 3.50 metres.

            In the peewee girls, Danika Soltys finished third in the long jump at four metres even, third in the triple jump at 8.75 metres, and eighth in the 400-metre dash at 1:24.09, ahead of Hallie Pozniak who finished 12th at 1:37.77.

            In the midget girls, Mikayla Babichuk finished 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 7.40 metres, and 16th in the long jump at 3.50 metres, just ahead of Jade Fidek, who was 17th at 3.35 metres.

            Fidek finished 14th in the shot put at 6.72 metres, and Raissa Tapat came in 17th at 5.12 metres. Almaz Landega finished eighth in the 400-metre dash with a time of 1:16.58.

            In the junior girls high jump, Ellyshia Enge finished first by clearing 1.46 metres, just ahead of Natasha Fey, who was second at 1.40 metres. Enge finished third in the 80-metre hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds.

            Fey finished fifth in the long jump at 4.09 metres, sixth in the triple jump at 8.42 metres, and placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 15.69 metres.

            In the senior girls long jump, Shayna Dubas was sixth at 4.18 metres, and Michelle Musyj was 12th at 3.29 metres. Dubas finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 21.95 metres, ahead of Megan Steranko who was seventh at 19.59 metres.

            Steranko finished fourth in the javelin at 25.82 metres, and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 8.60 metres. Montana Royle placed fifth in the 100-metre dash with a time of 14.55 seconds.

            In the bantam boys 3,000-metre run, Dawson Pozniak of Invermay finished sixth at 14:11.55, and 10th in the 800-metre run at 3:19.52.

            Shelby Wallin was first in the 80-metre hurdles at 14.14 seconds, and second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45 metres.

            Cole Serron was sixth in the peewee boys 3,000-metre run at 12:44.33. Jesse Grychowski placed seventh in the triple jump with 7.84 metres. Trystain Enge finished ninth in the discus at 19.54 metres, and 13th in the shot put at 7.55 metres.

            Tristen Maier won the midget boys 100-metre hurdles in a time of 19.80 seconds, placed fourth in the long jump at 4.32 metres, and seventh in the shot put at 9.89 metres, ahead of Peyton Shewchuk who finished ninth at 9.63 metres.

            Maier placed 11th in the discus at 23.51 metres, while Shewchuk was 12th at 22.99 metres.

            Brayden Serron finished third in the junior boys 1,500-metre run with a time of 5:51.24, and second in the 100-metre hurdles at 20.10 seconds.

            In senior boys action, Mark Cudal finished eighth in the discus at 23.52 metres, and 11th in the long jump at 4.22 metres

            Levi Minhinnick finished first in the javelin with a throw of 39.56 metres, ahead of Cody Dubas who finished second at 37.14 metres. Minhinnick placed third in the 100-metre hurdles at 19.43 seconds, and third in the shot put at 11.51 metres, just ahead of Dubas who was fourth at 11.33 metres.

            Invermay athletes qualifying for provincials include Levi Minhinnick (javelin, shot put and hurdles), Brayden Serron (hurdles), Alexa Bilokraly (hurdles), Tristen Maier (hurdles), and Ellysha Enge (high jump), Natasha Fey (high jump) and Cody Dubas (hurdles).
