Buffalos in Provincial C Senior final

The Theodore Buffalos are headed to the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Senior ‘C’ Championship.

The Buffalos won their spot in the upcoming final against Drake by defeating Eatonia 5-3 on Saturday, Mar. 17, in the home of the Huskies to sweep the best-of-three.

Theodore won game one of the series on home ice 2-1 in overtime before heading to Eatonia Saturday.

The Huskies took the early lead on a goal by Matt McKinnon at 2:32 of the first period.

Derrick Schwartz tied the game for the Buffs at 5:10, with Jeremy Johnson giving them the lead nine-seconds later.

Schwartz would be back to extend the Buffs lead to 3-1 with a goal at 6:33.

The Huskies drew closer with the only goal of the second period by Adam Antkowiak.

Antkowiak struck again at 2:02 of the third period to knot the score 3-3.

The Buffalos regained the lead on a goal by Ryley Stefanyshyn at 7:58, with Korwin Shewchuk getting an insurance marker at 18:42 to make it a 5-3 final.

Kevin Dziaduck was in the Theodore net to record the win, while Lane Michasiw was in the Huskies net.

While subject to change, the provincial final best-of-three is scheduled to start in Theodore Sunday at 6 p.m.

Game two will switch to Drake Friday, Mar. 30.

If required, game three will be held Sunday, April 1, in Theodore.

League finals
The Buffalos are also involved in the Triangle Hockey League final versus Rocanville.

The Buffalos have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five final after a 6-4 win at home ice on Mar. 13.

Jeremy Johnson broke a 4-4 tie with 4:35 remaining and Korwin Shewchuk added a powerplay goal late to seal it.

Johnson scored the first goal of the game, but Devin LeBlanc tied it for the Tigers.

Coby Zubko restored the Buffs lead, but Ryan Regel tied it again before the end of the first.

Garrett Fraser had the only goal of the second to put the Tigers in the lead. 

In the third, Tanner Lesann tied it for Theodore. 

Zubko added a powerplay goal at the midway point to make it 4-3. 

The Tigers’ Brad Hickman squared it at fours with 5:20 remaining; but that was short lived as Johnson notched the winner less than a minute later.

Game two in the series was scheduled for Mar. 20 in Rocanville. The Tigers won 8-7.
