The Yorkton Bantam UCT 'AA' Terriers captured second place in a Melville tournament on the weekend.
Following beating Weyburn 9-3, Humboldt 10-4 and the Regina Pat Blues 5-3, the Terriers fell 6-3 to Parkland in the championship game.
"I thought we played very well for the most part in the tournament," said Terriers head coach Graham Garrett. "We won our first three games and played well in them. Even though we didn't win our last it was still a good weekend for us."
Up against Parkland, four quick goals against the Terriers in the opening period ultimately sealed their fate.
"They really got a jump on us in that first period," said Garrett. "We tried to battle back, but it was tough with them getting that lead on us."
Last week
The Terriers won a pair of games at the Farrell Agencies Arena last weekend.
Yorkton kicked off their stellar weekend on Oct. 12 with a 10-4 win over the Prince Albert Venice House Raiders.
Carson Welke stole the show on the stats sheet with a five-goal performance. He scored three markers in the second period and lit the lamp two more times in the final frame.
"He's had some really good nights for us," said Garrett on Welke. "He goes hard to the net and has a good shot. On the nights where the puck bounces his way, he's going to score some goals."
Carson Miller, who scored two goals and two assists, and Keenan Taphorn, who scored a goal and three assists, didn't do too bad themselves with four-point nights.
The Terriers captured their second win in as many nights the following day at home against the Battlefords Barons in a 7-2 affair.
McKenzie Welke stole the spotlight back from his twin brother with two goals on the night, albeit Carson did tie him in points with two apples.
Reid Perepeluk and Brett Kemp led the Terriers in points with a goal and two assists apiece.
Up next
Yorkton heads to Weyburn on Friday to play the Crescent Point Wings. They then host the Regina Monarchs on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Kinsmen Arena.
