A successful hockey season came to an end on the weekend for the Xerox Atom 'AA' Terriers.
The Terriers competed in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Minor Hockey League finishing their regular season with a record of 13-6-1 which gave them second place.
The Terriers received a first round bye, then played the Estevan Bruins in the best of three semi-final series.
The Terriers swept the series with wins of 6-3 and 4-1.
The semi-final sweep advanced the Xerox Terriers to the league final where they took on the first place Swift Current Broncos, who finished atop the standings with a record of 17-2-1.
Both teams were evenly matched and had developed a good rivalry throughout the season with Swift Current gaining the regular season edge going 3-1 in the head-to-head regular season series.
Swift Current hosted game one, a game that the Terriers fell behind and trailed 3-0 after two periods.
However the third period was one that the Terriers dominated, managing to tie the game at three with just three minutes remaining. The final three minutes of regulation solved nothing, meaning overtime was needed.
It took Yorkton just 19 seconds to complete their comeback in game one as they won game one 4-3.
Swift Current returned to Yorkton the following day for game two.
This game was a fast skating, defensive and goaltending battle that saw the two teams skate to a scoreless tie after 40 minutes of play.
The scoreless tie was broken eight minutes into the final frame however, as Yorkton managed to beat the Swift Current goalie.
The Terriers battled the rest of the way and goalie Kael DePape earned the shutout in a 1-0 final to give the AA Terriers the league championship by shutting out the SEMHL Atom 'AA' divisions top offensive team.
This was a successful ending for a team that had only three returning players from last years squad.
A major effort by the whole team made for the championship season.
The AA Terriers would like to thank Xerox for being their sponsor and also their families and fans that supported them throughout the season.
