A new country meant a new start for the Parkland Expos midget ‘AAA’ baseball team as the ‘AAA’ Expos went 3-1 in a 16-team baseball tournament down in Sioux Falls, 鶹ýAV Dakota.
However things didn’t start off well for the Expos, who were lambasted 11-1 by Excelsior American Legion to open the tournament. “They are a good hitting team and are something like 40-3 this year,” Expos co-coach Tony Black said of Excelsior, adding that the Expos had some trouble adjusting to a different kind of baseball bat than what they are used to using in Canada. “Our guys had some adjusting to do with the BBCOR bats, but we were able to make the change eventually.”
The second game of the tournament was much better for the Expos as they handed Sioux Falls 16/17 East an 11-3 setback.
The Expos then knocked off Mitchell Junior Legion 7-1 to finish second in their pool after round robin, advancing to the consolation side where they picked up their third win of the tournament 9-1.
The three wins are something that the ‘AAA’ Expos are not used to this season, with the Expos currently sitting in last place in the 10-team SPBL ‘AAA’ Division with a record of 6-18.
However the three wins should also bring some positivity to the club ahead of their final six games of the regular season.
