The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers are off to a one-game-to-none lead in their second round playoff series in the AA Midget Division of the 麻豆传媒AV Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

Yorkton hosted the opening game of the series against the Notre Dame Argos Saturday at the Kinsmen Arena in the city.

The Terriers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of unanswered first period powerplay goals. Josh Peppler struck first at 10:11, and Anthony Roebuck snuck one in with only one second left on the clock for the two-goal lead.

Notre Dame got one back 3:32 into the second off the stick of Max Messier, then knotted the games at 2-2 with a powerplay effort from Jaxon Krupa 4:17 into the second.

Massen Ziola scored what would prove the game-winner with 6:53 left in the second to make it 3-2 Yorkton, which is the way the game would finish after a scoreless third.

Jason Henley was tagged with the loss in the Notre Dame net, with Spencer Welke taking the win in net for the Terriers.

聽鈥淲e kind of hung on,鈥 said Terrier head coach Brad Haberman.

Haberman said his team 鈥渢ook a few penalties,鈥 including two majors.

鈥淲e killed one (of the majors),鈥 he said, but added the Terriers did gove up one goal when short-handed for five minutes.

Through the two major kills, and the last 2:08 when the argos pulled their netminder.

鈥淭he kids were blocking shots doing things they needed to do to keep the puck out of the net,鈥 he said.

As a result of the majors the Terriers will have two players suspended for gamer two of the series, leaving them down to 15 skaters for the game.

Game two of the series had been scheduled for Wilcox Monday night but was postponed until Wednesday due to weather.

Having game two on the international-size ice in Wilcox, and being short-handed, will leave the Terriers facing a challenge.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going to have to work hard,鈥 said Haberman, adding the Argos are a 鈥渄ump and chase team,鈥 which will put pressure on a shortened Terrier bench.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Thursday at. 7:30 at the Farrell Agencies Arena (FAA), in Yorkton.

Game four will go Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Wilcox (if needed), with game five next Wednesday, March 14. 7:30 at the FAA, (if needed).聽
