The Yorkton Kinsmen AA Midget Terriers are headed into the final week of league action holding onto first place after a trio of games the past seven days.

Thursday the AA Midgets hosted the Notre Dame Argos at the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton.

Massen Ziloa gave Yorkton the lead with the only goal of the opening period.

In the second the Terriers struck for four unanswered goals to make it 5-0. Peyton Shewchuk, Michael Coleridge, Anthony Roebuck and Colby Vranai all scored for the home side.

Zach Jelley finally broke the shut out for the Argos, only to have Josh Peppler and Josh Haczkewicz add two more Yorkton goals to make it 7-1.

Max Messier would add one for Notre Dame to round out a 7-2 home win for the Terriers.

Noah Cline and Jason Henley split time in the Notre Dame net in the loss, while Spencer Welke took the win in the Yorkton net.

Saturday Yorkton was in Lumsden to face the Lumsden/Bethune Lions dropping a 5-3 decision.

Colby Vranai started the scoring giving Yorkton a 1-0 lead until Lion Kade Klisowsky tied the score on the powerplay 5:10 into the game.

Conlan Neilson and Calder Curtis gave the home team a 3-1 lead before Massen Ziola made it 3-2 with a Terrier goal.

Curtis would add his second of the game to make it a 4-2 game through 20-minutes.

In the second Yorkton鈥檚 Michael Coleridge scored the only goal of the frame to make it a 4-3 game.

Treton Curtis would score the lone goal of the third period to round out the 5-3 Lion win.

Spencer Welke took the loss in the Yorkton net, while Riley Christison took the win for Lumsden/Bethune.

Yorkton coach Brad Haberman said the team didn鈥檛 start well. Earlier in the day, bus troubles meant a conveyance switch on the highway.

鈥淲e had a bit of a sluggish first period. We were down 4-2 and just couldn鈥檛 battle back,鈥 he said.

Sunday the Yorkton AA Kinsmen Terrier hosted the Regina Vics at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Dawsen Parker gave the visiting Vics a 1-0 lead 3:54 into the game.

Ashton Shewchuk and Josh Herman, with an unassisted effort, responded for the Terriers to give Yorkton a 2-1 lead through the first period.

In the second Massen Ziola on the powerplay, Josh Peppler and Anthony Roebuck scored for Yorkton extending their lead to 5-1 through 40-minutes.

Michael Coleridge gave Yorkton a 6-1 lead with a powerplay marker 1:30 into the third, a mark equalled with 1:53 left in the game by the Vics Parker, also on the powerplay to round out the 6-2 contest.

Brad Sentes took the loss in the Regina net, while Graham Buckle earned the win for Yorkton.

Haberman said the Terriers didn鈥檛 have a great first period again, but they stayed ahead of the Vics until they could take control in the second.

The loss in Lumsden may actually have played in the Terriers favour, said their coach.

鈥淚 think the loss was good for us. We had won seven in row and the loss brought us down to earth that we鈥檙e not invincible,鈥 he said, adding the effort against Regina was clearly better.

Yorkton enjoys a record of 23-7-2-2 for 50 points to sit atop the 麻豆传媒AVSask Minor Hockey League AA Midget Division. They are four points up on Weyburn at 46 points, followed by Swift Current with 45 points and Estevan with 44 points.

Up next

Tonight (Wednesday), the Kinsmen Terriers are scheduled to play in Regina versus the Vics in their final away game of the regular season.

The final game will have Yorkton hosting the Prairie Storm Thursday at 8 p.m., a team out of the playoff picture, but also one the Terriers have yet to defeat this season.

Haberman said the two games have huge importance as the Terriers can finish anywhere from first to third in the league based on the outcome of games in the final week of the season.

鈥淭hey鈥檙e pretty key. If we lose both we could dip to third,鈥 he said, adding conversely a pair of wins would ensure top spot and home ice throughout the playoffs. 鈥溾 We鈥檙e in control of our own fate to be first in our league.鈥
