The Parkland Expos ‘AA’ midget baseball team finally found the win column this past Sunday, snapping their six game losing streak to pick up their first win of the season, 12-11 in Game One of a doubleheader against the Regina White Sox at Currie Field in the Queen City.
The Expos scored three in the first inning and never looked back, leading the entire game to register their first victory of the 2015 campaign. Starting pitcher Luke Walters picked up the win for the ‘AA’ Expos allowing seven runs (all earned) while walking 11, giving up two hits and striking out six in 5.1 innings of work.
Mitchell Karapita picked up the save striking out two batters for the two outs he recorded.
Walters also powered the Parkland offence in Game One going 3-for-4 with one walk and four RBIs while Jordan Evans also had a strong game at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and one RBI.
Other RBIs in the game went to Montana Johnson (2-for-4, walk, RBI), Braden Kitchen (2-for-2, walk, RBI) and Ashton Katerenchuk (1-for-4, walk, two RBIs).
Game Two saw the ‘AA’ Expos fail to take advantage of the momentum from their first win of the season earlier in the day, dropping Game Two by a 15-7 score despite strong batting from all members of the team. “Our offence has been there all season,” said ‘AA’ Expos head coach Randy Brenzen following the game. “We’ve been able to put the ball in play most of the time.
“What we need to improve on now is our accuracy on the pitching mound. We walked over 30 batters today, including 18 in our Game One win, so if we can cut down on that we should pick up a few more victories this season.”
