It’s been a tough season so far for a very young Parkland Expos ‘AA’ baseball team, who took a 1-7 record into Lloydminster and Humboldt this past weekend.

The ‘AA’ Expos ran into some bad luck in their first series of the weekend, dropping a pair of games to the Northwest Prairie Pirates ‘AA’ squad by scores of 8-3 in Game One and 6-4 in Game Two.

Luke Walters shouldered the loss in Game One despite a strong performance on the mound while Jordan Evans in his season pitching debut took the Game Two loss with a complete game effort surrendering six runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out five.

Bantam AP Montana Johnson had a strong game at the plate in Game Two leading all Parkland Expos with a 3-for-4 game and two RBIs.

The following day the ‘AA’ Expos were in Humboldt to do battle with the perfect Humboldt Dodgers, who carried an impressive 11-0 record into Sunday’s Game One.

The Parkland Expos proved that they were indeed improving as starting pitcher Grady Hawkins did a great job keeping the Humboldt batters off balance while the offence and defence - the latter of which has been the Achilles Heel for the club so far this season – was also strong in a 7-7 tie that ended Humboldt’s bid for a perfect season.

Game Two saw the ‘AA’ Expos give their bantam AP pitchers some work as Montana Johnson and Gregor Farquharson both took to the mound in the 13-3 loss. The 13-year-old Farquharson, who is the youngest player in Saskatchewan Midget Baseball this season, led the Expo attack in Game Two with a three hit, one RBI effort.

The next action for the ‘AA’ Parkland Expos is this Saturday when they’re in Regina for two games, one each against the Regina Blue Jays and Regina Pacers.
