16U Blitz off to a good start

Yorkton Blitz 16U girls volleyball team competed in the SVA SASK Cup 1 tournament on Jan. 28-29 in Saskatoon.


Yorkton Blitz 16U girls volleyball team competed in the SVA SASK Cup 1 tournament on Jan. 28-29 in Saskatoon.

The Blitz went undefeated in the round robin portion of the tournament; defeating the Strasbourg Vikings, Yorkton McSweeney's Selects and Warman Volleyball Club.

The girls battled hard in the playoffs, their first match was against Saskatoon Ultimate Chaos which Blitz won in a tie-breaker set 15-11.

This win assured the team of a top eight placing at the tournament.

The Blitz then competed against Wakaw where they forced a tie-breaker set but were unable to take the win.

The next round of playoffs was against Saskatoon Sol which the Blitz won in two straight sets (25-14 and 25-21).

The Blitz team then faced Saskatoon Serious Impact to determine the fifth and sixth placing of the tournament.

The girls came up a little bit short in the two sets (22-25 and 20-25).

The tournament however was very successful for the Blitz team; who finished the tournament in sixth spot out of 28 teams.

Yorkton will host the SVA SASK Cup 2 on March 24-25. This year's team consists of Natasha Hausermann, Allison Ingham, Taylor Harris, Morgan Thorley, Winter Mucha, Tamara Hershmiller, Shelby Stratechuk, Morgan Shymanski, Kristen Jonassen, Shania Wallin, Cheyenne Pryhitka and coach Bryce Krawetz.
