Over 300 young student-athletes took part in the Good Spirit School Division grade four-to-six track meet held over the week of March 31st to April fourth at the Yorkton Gallagher Centre's Flexihall and when all was said and done 11 district records were smashed.
Melville's Ryan Rathgeber from Davison School broke the boys' record in the 50 metre dash with a time of 7.53.
Rathgeber was back at it again later in the day, this time smashing the grade five boys' shot-put with a distance of 8.47 metres.
The grade five boys' shot-put record wasn't the only one to fall during the track meet. Two other shot-put records also went by the wayside as Canora's Jalyssa Peters claimed the grade four girls shot-put record with a distance of 6.08 metres while Kamsack's Lakota Laughren set the grade five girls' shot-put record with a throwing distance of 7.29 metres.
Danike Soltys from Invermay set the grade four girls' high jump record with an outstanding leap of 1.14 metres to become the only high jumper to break a record in 2014.
M.C. Knoll School claimed three of six relay team records over the course of the track meet.
The Knights started by breaking the grade four girls' 4X25 mile relay (each runner had to run a quarter of a mile) with a time of 2:08.22. The Knights then broke the grade four boys' 4X25 mile relay record with a run time of 2:01.75 before a 1:52.59 time gave them the grade five boys' 4X25 mile relay record.
P.J. Gillen School from Esterhazy set the mark for the grade five girls' 4X25 mile relay race with a 1:5925 time while Kamsack Comprehensive and Yorkdale Central School set the records for grade six girls' (1:55.03) and grade six boys' (1:51.40) respectively.
