Sturgis graduates honoured with awards

Academic awards went to grads who averaged 80% or higher in Grades 10, 11, and 12.

STURGIS — The Sturgis Composite School acknowledged graduates with awards during its graduation ceremony held in the Sturgis Regional Park on June 28.

Kelsey Newman and Kristen Peterson presented the awards.

The Academic Awards were given to graduates who have achieved an 80 per cent or better average in Grades 10, 11, and 12.

Chaz Jaeb  achieved an 81.5 per cent overall average.

Ciara Soltys achieved an 85.6 per cent average in Grade 10, 11 and 12.

Wyatt Mastrachuk received an academic award with an 87.7 per cent average.

Joey Federuik achieved an 88.2 per cent average in Grades 10, 11, and 12. Federuik was unable to attend graduation.

Kourtney Gregory received an academic award with an 89.8 per cent average.

Tate Bayer achieved an overall average of 90.5 per cent in Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Syklar Ryczak received an academic award with an overall average of 93.5 per cent .

Kaiden Masley earned an academic award with a 95.2 per cent average.

Trina Correos was the top graduate for 2023 with the leading average of 95.3%.

Next on the program were the presentations of awards and scholarships.

The Male Athlete Award for 2023 goes to two very deserving graduates. These two athletes have been involved in most of the sports teams our school has to offer. The Male Athlete Awards for 2023 were presented to Skylar Ryczak and Chaz Jaeb.

Tate Bayer received the Fighting Heart Award.

Kaiden Masley received the Spirit Award that goes to a graduate who can always be counted on and is a positive role model for the school and community. Masley also received the Congeniality Award which was voted on by the graduates.  

Kourtney Gregory received the Most Improved Student Award that goes to a graduate who has improved academically throughout their time at Sturgis School.

Kaiden Masley received the $200 Sturgis Museum scholarship. Masley also received the Kelsey Ecological Society $300 bursary and the Margaret Prekaski Memorial Scholarship for $1,000.

Tate Bayer received the Sturgis Bingo $300 scholarship. He also received the Gateway Co-op, Sturgis branch $200 scholarship, and the Sturgis School Community Council $300 scholarship, as well as an entrance scholarship from the University of Saskatchewan.

Kourtney Gregory received the Parent Support Group scholarship for $300 and the Preeceville Vet Clinic $500 scholarship.

Trina Correos received the Town of Sturgis $500 scholarship and the R.M. of Preeceville’s $500 scholarship.

Skylar Ryczak received the Sturgis Kin Club $500 scholarship, and the Crossroads Credit Union $500 scholarship.

Wyatt Mastrachuk received the Wayne Barsby Memorial scholarship in the amount of $500. He also received the Tiaga Technologies $500 scholarship.

Ciara Soltys received the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary $300 scholarship, as well as the Aspen Paramedic Services $500 scholarship.

Chaz Jaeb was awarded the Norquay Legion $200 scholarship.

Austin Fedorchuk, a 2022 graduate, received the Governor General Award.
