STURGIS - Skate Sturgis, a newly formed skating group, held its first-ever ice carnival on March 1 and 2. The theme of the program was Disney Comes to Life with 26 skaters lighting up the ice with their performances. Heather Tunbridge-Jaeb was the mentor and coaches were: Mollie Jaeb, Layla Jaeb, Karley Buchinski and the junior coach was Cruz Jaeb.
Skate Sturgis is a new group that will offer lessons to beginners, intermediate, advanced skaters as well as parent and toddler skating.
The learn-to-skate program provides skaters the opportunity to develop and learn to skate in a fun environment. The motto is about going back to the basics, learning to skate and providing skaters with fundamentals, skills to learn and progress as skaters in a fun and safe environment.
The carnival program kicked off with the playing of O Canada and the Skater’s Prayer followed by a coach skate by Mollie Jaeb, Layla Jaeb, Karley Buchinski and Cruz Jaeb to the music, This is Me, by Camp Rock.
Novice One skaters Paisley Boucher, Erza Parreno and Hunter Flowers skated to the music of The Ice Cream Freeze.
Harper Flowers and Emily Prokopetz were beginner skaters who performed to Let It Go from the movie Frozen.
Novice Two and Three skaters Katie Boucher, Oaklyn Dowie, Rayne Weinhandl, Briley Robinson and Avery Storoschuk performed to I Like to Move It.
Elementary skaters Arielle Eagleson, Gwen Irlandez, Dylan Terrenal and Bohden Wilfmueller performed to Be Our Guests from the movie Beauty and the Beast.
Cruz Jaeb performed her first-ever solo skate to How Far I’ll Go from the movie, Moana.
The Novice Three skaters, Kolton Fortin, Jayden Poworoznyk-Bates and Leo Yachyshyn, performed to We’re Not Going to Take It from The Avengers.
Skaters at the basic level performed to Hakuna Matata from the movie The Lion King. Skaters were, Sophia Storoschuk, Lexi Keller, Kasyn Chernyk, Kiara Poworoznyk-Bates and Gabby Correos.
After a short intermission, Layla Jaeb skated a solo to Queen of Mean from the movie Descendants.
Elementary skaters Gwen Irlandez, Kiara Poworoznyk-Bates, Gabby Correos, Lexi Keller, Sophia Storoschuk and Arielle Eagleson performed to Under the Sea from the movie The Little Mermaid
Beginner skaters who skated a duet to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo from Cinderella were, Emily Prokopetz and Harper Flowers.
Elementary and basic skaters combined to perform to I Just Can’t Wait to be King from the Lion King. Skaters were, Kasyn Chernyk, Dylan Terrenal and Bohden Wolfmueller.
Novice Two and Three skaters Jayden Poworoznyk-Bates, Kolton Fortin, Leo Yachyshyn and Avery Storoschuk performed to Life is a Highway from the movie,\ Cars.
Novice One and Two skaters Rayne Weinhandl, Oaklyn Dowie, Katie Boucher, Brinley Robinson, Paisley Boucher, Hunter Flowers and Erza Parreno performed to Shake it Off from the movie Sing.
The grand finale featured all the skaters performing their final skate of the evening.
