SASKATOON — Another incident of improper disposal of smoking material caused a structure fire in the 100 block of Riel Crescent on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Saskatoon Fire Department’s dispatch received the call at 2:56 p.m. of an attached garage on fire to a single-family dwelling unit.

It took responding fire crews — composed of three fire engines, a ladder truck and the Battalion Chief — only 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. The rescue unit was cancelled.

The fire investigator, after taking over the scene and conducting a scene examination, concluded the fire was accidentally caused by smoking material.

The fire, which was extinguished at the exterior, started at the southwest corner of the garage causing an estimated $12,000 in damage.
