Outlook Town Council News & Notes - August 9

The Town of Outlook’s council met for a scheduled meeting on Wednesday night, August 9.

The Town of Outlook’s council met for a scheduled meeting on Wednesday night, August 9.  Present was all of town council; Donna Smith, Maureen Weiterman, Kyle McLeod, Maureen Applin, Floyd Childerhose, and David Simonson; as well as Mayor Ross Derdall, Superintendent Luke Lockhart, Administrator Trent Michelman and Assistant Administrator Laurie Lemon.  Absent was Recreation Director Jordy Jones.

A number of topics and issues were discussed, including the following highlights:

-  Ross said that the new swimming pool in Outlook is coming together nicely, and he’d gone on a recent trip over to Davidson to see that community’s new aquatic facility.

-  A total of 114 hazards had been remedied on town sidewalks recently by Lockhart and his crews.

-  The wind storm from July had been keeping town workers busy with tree removals and general clean-up.

-  Lockhart was seeking approval for parking signage at the orange pedestrian bridge.  Council gave Luke credit for the work on providing access at the bridge, as they said it looks great and the area is seen as a big improvement.

-  Council was concerned at the trash being littered in the dog park area south of the Jim Kook Rec Plex near the ball diamonds.

-  The town landfill has been busy since the storm in July, and there have been no further issues about illegal dumping or other troublesome activity at the landfill since cameras were recently installed.

-  Council is concerned however about large landfill loads not being tarped en route to the facility.

-  A street sign for the Outlook cemetery has been ordered, and the design for the signage at the cemetery itself is set to be updated, with quotes being sought out.

-  A design is still being decided on and quotes being sought for lighting on the town entrance signs, with other ideas such as automatic lighting and additional phrasing on the back of the signs being explored.
