Long time Yorkton firefighters recognized

The local force – 16 full-time, four temporary and six auxiliary – is a rather veteran force with “four other long service members” soon up for the next level of recognition.

YORKTON - Three long-time firefighters in Yorkton were recognized for their years of service at a ceremony at the fire hall Friday.

Active firefighter Trent Holland was presented a medal for his 20 years of service, with retired firefighters Lance Oystrick and Barry Thies receiving 30-year medals.

“No doubt 20 years is no small feat,” said Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey. “Thirty-years is even more.

“We’re very proud of our members achieving it.”

Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle said he fully appreciated the importance of firefighters to the city.

Morrissey told Yorkton This Week the local force – 16 full-time, four temporary and six auxiliary – is a rather veteran force with “four other long service members” soon up for the next level of recognition – they are based on five-year increments of service.
