On Monday, June 5th, the LCBI SADD group and Outlook RCMP held a check stop on Saskatchewan Avenue.
Forty vehicles were checked with no infractions. The SADD group had a message for all the drivers to remember to drive safe, which includes distracted driving and drinking and driving.
The check stop was well received by the members and by motorists. The SADD group should be encouraged to keep up the work in promoting safe driving as Saskatchewan continues to have the highest rate of Impaired Drivers in the country, and this year is no exception.
May 16-22nd was Canada's road safety week. During that one week period, Saskatchewan had the following statistics:
- 2237 Traffic Safety Act charges
- 177 alcohol impaired driving related charges
- 1 drug impaired charge
The Outlook/ Elbow RCMP had better numbers than the Saskatchewan average.
- 22 Traffic Safety Act charges
- 0 impaired driving related charges
- 1 drug charge
Outlook RCMP and Traffic Services also ran a check stop on the May long weekend, stopping over 250 vehicles. Of those stopped, there were only two vehicle regulation tickets handed out.
