KAMSACK — Following the installation of officers for a new term, the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has resumed social events at its Legion Hall on Second Street.
Among events now being held on a regular basis are the Saturday afternoon bingo games and the Legion’s TGIF, a Friday evening program which has the Hall open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an assortment of activities including cards, pool, shuffleboard and rumoli games.
Karen Tourangeau was installed president of the Legion executive during a meeting on May 3. She succeeds Jim Woodward who has held that position since 2013.
Dianne Smutt was installed as secretary; Karen Bodnaryk, treasurer; Sharon Rudy, first vice-president; and Gordon Craig, second vice-president and sergeant-at-arms.
Also on the executive committee are Judy Green, Maria Rudd, Carole Stoyand and Audrey Girling. Stephen Ruten is the chaplain.
“We’re starting to catch up after having been closed for more than two years,” Tourangeau said on May 7 prior to the beginning of the bingo games.
Tourangeau said that the Legion is still the sponsoring body for the Kamsack air cadet squadron and will be holding regular monthly meetings until the summer hiatus. Plans are to hold a Decoration Day service at Riverview Cemetery on June 2.
A total of 24 bingo players assembled to play the games on April 30, when the games in the Hall resumed. Included in the games is a Pot of Gold blackout where $1,000 could be won in 50 numbers or less; the regular jackpot, which on May 7 totalled $210 in 49 numbers, and a Bonanza jackpot for $300 in 55 numbers.
Helping to hold the games along with Tourangeau, were Judy Green and Audrey Girling. Diane Larson tended the concession, selling bags of potato chips, coffee, bottles of water, soft drinks, chocolate bars and hot dogs. Easton Moline is the regular caller of the numbers.
