In November of 2013, it was just a dream and a list of hopes and wishes.
In July of 2017, it’s starting to become a reality.
The smiles couldn’t be erased from the faces of fundraising committee members as a sod-turning ceremony was held on Sunday, July 2 to mark the beginning of construction for the town of Outlook’s new swimming pool facility.
Tony Peter, Julie de Moissac, Teresa Weldon and Betty Peter of the new pool committee were joined by Outlook mayor Ross Derdall and town councillors Maureen Weiterman, Kyle McLeod, Maureen Applin, Donna Smith, Dave Simonson, and Floyd Childerhose for the special event, which drew a nice handful of people that came out to see the first ceremonial step taken towards the realization of a new pool.
Perhaps appropriately, the sod turning was held as part of Outlook’s Canada 150 weekend festivities; a corner-turning step for a major community project while Canada celebrated a monumental birthday.
There was a feeling of everything coming full circle for this project as people spoke amongst each other and high-fives were slapped all around after the shovels went into the dirt. Through its many twists and turns along the way – luckily more positives than negatives – the vision of a new pool in Outlook is now starting to take shape, and those behind the scenes on the project are elated to see the work about to take place.
It’s expected that Western Recreation will start work on the pool on Monday, July 10.
