SASKATOON — The Rural Municipality of Corman Park Council has declined a discretionary use application from Green Prairie Environmental to operate an organics composting facility next to the GPE landfill in the RM. The decision was made in an 8-1 vote.
GPE was awarded a contract in September 2020 to provide organics processing services to support the City's Curbside Organics Program after a public procurement process.
The city's contract with GPE requires a contingency plan if the company faces any challenges in delivering services fully. This was a pre-condition to moving forward.
However, residents need not worry as GPE will bear any extra contingency cost, not the city.
The city is continuing to prepare for the program's launch next week, and collections will not be affected by this RM Council decision.
All eligible residences will have their green bins by the end of this week.
