The newest offering at the Outlook Art Gallery is definitely one of the most patriotic exhibits in some time, as their yearly fabric art collection puts a spotlight on Canada鈥檚 150th anniversary with a number of unique quilts.
The quilts on display highlight our country in some bold, colorful ways and eye-catching patterns.
For instance, a special mosaic-type quilt by Janet Casswell-Beckmann highlights the maple leaf and also features emblems that speak to Indigenous and Metis people, digging at our country鈥檚 bilingual roots.聽 Another piece, entitled 鈥淗arvest Bounty鈥� by Lona Loken, speaks to our agricultural side and features borders of flying geese.
The colors of red and white definitely stand out in this particular exhibit, such as the 鈥淢aple Leaf Forever鈥� quilt by Arlene Danes (Farden) of Edmonton.聽 As well, the Outlook Legion Branch #262 sponsored a special 鈥淨uilt of Valour鈥�, custom quilted by Kitty Paslawski as a collaborative effort of the Outlook Quilters鈥� Group and will be given to a veteran following Remembrance Day.
One of the pieces that seem to stand out is the 鈥淐anada Far and Wide鈥� quilt by Judy Butler, which highlights all the capital cities in the country and uses a variety of different colors.
With an emphasis on Canada鈥檚 150th, this exhibit is one that has to be seen up close to be truly appreciated.
