PELLY — Rarely are elections so close.
The Village of Pelly had to deal with a tie vote to determine who was elected to their council. The election was held Nov. 13.
Eric Krochak, with 79 votes; Terry Vogel, with 78 votes; and Barry Shook, with 72 votes, were elected to the four-person council.
Megan Kabatoff and Michelle Mazuren each had 43 votes.
If a tie happens, according to the provincial government's guide to municipal elections, the returning officer writes the names of the tied candidate separately on blank sheets of paper of equal size. They are then placed into a container. The returning officer then directs another person to draw a name. The name that is drawn is declared elected.
Kabatoff's name was drawn and becomes the fourth councillor.
Trevor Auchstaetter was acclaimed as mayor.
