PREECEVILLE - The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum hosted the fall Seneca Root meeting held at St. John Lutheran Church on October 24. Attending were representatives of Kamsack’s Power House Museum, the National Doukhobor Heritage Village in Veregin, the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society, the Pelly- Fort Livingstone Museum, the Preeceville and District Heritage Museum, the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum and the Melville Heritage Museum. The Sturgis Station House Museum and the Canora Station House Museum were not represented.
Each member in attendance gave a brief report that featured activities, events and future plans projected for each museum.
Representatives from the Saskatchewan Parkland Valley were also in attendance. Topics discussed included a museum name change, viewed a five minute video that showcased each museum and determined if it was still of interest to members to continue meeting.
“The museums in attendance decided that it would be valuable and an important resource to continue meeting once a year to share what each one did through the year. We also decided that since the network has expressed no interest to continue with us, we changed our name to East Central Seneca Museums,” said Agnes Murrin, chairperson for Preeceville Museum.
Murrin also stated that it was great productive meeting with everyone having a input. The next meeting will be in May to see what response they have had with the videos that are to be put online and on YouTube. The videos feature each museum in a positive and knowledgeable fashion.
