CANORA- Among the five municipalities in the Canora district, only two of those RMs will require polls in the upcoming municipal elections, with one councillor to be elected in each RM. All other councillors were elected by acclamation.
Terms of councillors in even-numbered divisions in RMs across Saskatchewan expired this year and candidate nominations for those divisions were received by the RM returning officers by Oct. 5. Where only one candidate was nominated, he or she was declared elected by acclamation. If they had a change of heart, candidates had until 4 p.m. on Oct. 5 to withdraw their names.
As is the case in all RMs, even-numbered divisions were up for election this year in the RM of Sliding Hills. But a byelection was required in the vacated Div. 5 councillor position. Jeff Schulz and Ed Keyowksi are in the running, with the poll to be held on Nov. 9 at the municipal office in Mikado. The advance poll will take place at the same location on Nov. 3.
Even-numbered divisions in Sliding Hills all saw the incumbents returned by acclamation: Tyson Beyko in Div. 2, Tim Verigin in Div. 4, and LeeAnn Weinbender was acclaimed in Div. 6.
A byelection was also needed in the RM of Good Lake, where Don Rae was acclaimed for the vacant Div. 5 councillor position. Incumbents James Morton and Ken Demchuk were acclaimed in Div. 2 and Div. 4 respectively. A poll will be required for Div. 6, where incumbent Julius Dziaduck will be opposed by Dana Antonovich. The poll will be held on Nov. 9 at the RM office (back door) with an advance poll taking place at the same location on Oct. 29.
The other three RMs in the Canora area will not require polling.
For the RM of Keys, newcomer Dirk Van As was acclaimed in Div. 2. Incumbents Brad Knutson and Brad Hallick were acclaimed in Div. 4 and Div. 6 respectively.
The RM of Keys has one newcomer to council, as Chris Walker was acclaimed after incumbent Justin DeVries chose not to run. Incumbents acclaimed were Myron Kopec in Div. 2 and Brent Pelechaty in Div. 6.
The status quo is very much in effect in the RM of Invermay, where all three incumbents were elected by acclamation: William Jack in Div. 2, Sergey Shewchuk in Div. 4, and Regan Graham won by acclamation in Div. 6.
