CANORA - On May 27, the Parkland Pirates came to town on a cool evening in Canora for the Supers 2024 season home opener.
“The bats were ice-cold for both teams, as the Pirates only managed four hits, and the Supers could only muster up one,” said Greg Andreychuk, player/manager.
Fortunately for the Supers they were able to take advantage of a couple of Pirates fielding miscues and came away with a tight 2-0 win.
“Kody Rock was the story of the game once again, tossing a compete game shutout with 15 K's (strikeouts) to pick up the win,” said Andreychuk. “Jordan Bieber of the Pirates was equally impressive allowing just two unearned runs, but was saddled with the tough luck loss.”
The Supers’ offence was just as miserable as the cool weather, as Brendon Landstad was the only Super to record a hit. He also stole a base.
“Porter Wolkowski was called up from the Canora 18U Reds, and recorded a stolen base and a run scored,” said Andreychuk. “Rock also recorded two stolen bases and a run scored on a Kholton Shewchuk RBI groundout.”
With the win, the Supers evened their record at 1-1 for the young season.
Their next action is on June 5, when the Yorkton Marlins make the trip to Canora for a tilt at Al Sapieha Field.
