Canora RCMP: Mischief charges after landlord changes locks

A caller phoned about their landlord changing the locks for unpaid rent. The incident led to an altercation resulting in uttering threats and mischief charges being laid.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 32 calls from Feb. 22 to Feb. 29, some of which included:

  • one animal call,
  • one assault,
  • one Controlled Drugs and Substances Act call,
  • two Coroners Act calls,
  • one Disturbing the Peace,
  • one false alarm,
  • one fraud,
  • four Mental Health Act calls,
  • one mischief,
  • one taking a motor vehicle without consent,
  • two thefts,
  • 12 traffic offenses,
  • two traffic collisions,
  • and one wellbeing check. 

Unpaid rent: locks changed

On Jan. 28, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report that a landlord had entered the caller’s residence and changed the locks for unpaid rent. The incident led to an altercation resulting in uttering threats and mischief charges being laid. The investigation continues.

Medical emergency

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 28 to a call where assistance was required to gain access to a home where someone inside was having a medical emergency.  The assistance request was called off after access was made to the home prior to police arrival.

Calmer heads prevail

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a residence in Canora for a report of an assault on Jan. 25. Police investigated and both men involved in the incident did not want police to further investigate the matter.

Co-op liquor theft

On Jan. 22, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report that a man stole a bottle of liquor from the Canora Co-op Liquor Store.  The man was charged with theft under $5,000 and a warrant obtained for his arrest.
