CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 37 calls from March 7 to March 14, some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- two abandoned vehicles,
- two animal calls,
- one break and enter,
- two bylaw calls,
- two Child Family Services Act calls,
- one disturbing the peace,
- one distributing intimate images,
- one fraud,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- one Off-Road Vehicle Act call,
- two other provincial calls,
- one theft,
- 11 traffic offenses,
- three traffic collisions,
- two trespassing, and
- one wellbeing check.
Cow out on the town
On March 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a cow on the loose in Preeceville. The cow had managed to escape the veterinary clinic and was roaming around. By the time police arrived, the caller was able to locate and get the cow back into the corral.
Fake golf cart business
The Canora RCMP received a call on March 13 from a man in Ontario about a fraudulent website “golfcartsforsale.ca.” The website sold golf carts and the location of the business was listed as being on the 300 block of Main Street in Canora. Police investigated and determined the website was fraudulent, and images and information on the site were taken from other websites.
Icy roads cause rollover
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 47 south of Buchanan on March 13. The driver of a Buick Century lost control of his vehicle on icy highways and struck the ditch. The driver received minor injuries and was taken to hospital by EMS.
Avoid each other
On March 12, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint in Canora. Police attended the call and arrested two individuals for assault. Both individuals were charged with assault and released on conditions not to have contact with each other.
Under the influence, strange behaviour
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on March 12 to a disturbance complaint in Canora. A man was reported to be in distress and yelling at the top of his lungs. When police located the man, he fled into an unoccupied building. Police spoke with the man who was agitated and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. After approximately 30 minutes, police were able to calm the man down. He was arrested for causing a disturbance and taken into custody without incident.
Not welcome
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance complaint at a business in Canora on March 12. Police learned a woman had entered the business and was not permitted to be there due to a previous barring notice. Police continue to investigate.
Snowmobile trespass
On March 10, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of snowmobilers trespassing on a field outside of Canora. Police investigated and charged an individual for trespassing. The Saskatchewan Trespass to Property Act prohibits a person from entering onto one’s land except with the consent of the occupier or while acting under legal authority.
Stick to crosswalks
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a motor vehicle/pedestrian collision on Main Street in Canora on March 8. Police investigated and determined a young girl had tried to cross the street outside of a crosswalk zone and was struck by a passing vehicle. The pedestrian was not injured. Police would like to remind the public that pedestrians are to use crosswalks and do not have the right-of-way when attempting to cross in the middle of a street.
Missing patient located
On March 7, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to assist the Canora Hospital with a patient who had disappeared and could not be located. The patient was described as woman, with one leg, and wearing pajamas. Police investigated and determined the woman was picked up and was back at home in the Kamsack area.
