Canora RCMP: Daughter strikes and threatens mother

Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint where a woman struck her mother, threatened to kill her, then pushed her out of a parked vehicle.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 33 calls from Jan. 11 to Jan. 18, some of which included:

  • one assault,
  • four animal calls,
  • one 911 call,
  • one breach of peace,
  • one disturbing the peace,
  • two failures to comply with conditions,
  • one failure to stop at an accident scene,
  • four false alarms,
  • one Fire Prevention Act call,
  • one Mental Health Act Call,
  • one mischief,
  • one operation while impaired,
  • one other provincial call,
  • one suspicious person,
  • two traffic collisions,
  • six traffic offenses,
  • two wellbeing checks, and
  • two prisoners.

Ugly family feud

On Jan. 11, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint where a woman struck her mother, threatened to kill her, then pushed her out of a parked vehicle.

The woman was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and failing to comply with undertaking conditions. The woman was remanded into custody.

Eggshell reported

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Jan. 14 that an eggshell was found in the backyard of a residence in Canora. Police were unable determine where the egg came from or who may have been responsible. There was no damage from the egg to the caller’s property.

Ailing woman gets timely assistance

Canora/Sturgis RCMP members were asked to check on an elderly woman laying on the park bench at the King George Park in Canora on Jan. 15. The woman was found to be in medical distress and was taken to the Canora Hospital by a good Samaritan who was found helping the woman.

Driver flees after collision damage

On Jan. 16, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision in Preeceville. A truck was reported to have crashed into a crosswalk sign, a speed sign, a power pole and a fire hydrant. The driver of the truck did not remain on scene following the collision.  Police continue to investigate.

Impaired driving consequences

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 16 to an erratic driving complaint involving an orange Ford Edge heading northbound on Highway 9 coming into Canora, which then turned off into the Gateway Co-op parking lot.

The driver and two occupants of the Ford Edge stopped for sandwiches, then continued to drive northbound on Norway Road.

Police stopped the vehicle and found the driver and both occupants to be intoxicated. An open case of beer and a bottle of vodka was seized.

The driver was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation with a blood alcohol level equal to or over 80mg%, and driving while prohibited. The Ford Edge was also impounded for 30 days.

Some habits are hard to break

On Jan. 17, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a man for failing to comply with his release order conditions by attending a liquor store in Canora and being in possession of alcohol and cannabis. The man was remanded into custody.
