Aaron Nagy, a customer service representative at CIBC in Canora, will be in the CIBC Run for the Cure in Regina, on Oct, 1 and is taking pledges in support of the battle against breast cancer.

CANORA - “My mom’s friend, whom I considered to be an aunt, passed away from this disease.”

Like almost all of us, Aaron Nagy has been affected by a loved one being stricken by breast cancer. But Nagy, a customer service representative at the CIBC branch in Canora, has used this as motivation to get involved and raise money to help find a cure.

Nagy, who grew up in Rhein, will be a first-time participant in the 2023 CIBC Run for the Cure in Regina on Oct. 1. Similar runs will be taking place in Saskatoon and numerous other locations across Canada.

“We all have a friend or family member who is affected by this disease,” said Nagy. “We can make a difference. The fact is there are people right here in our community that are affected by this disease. It’s very common and if not caught early, it can be deadly. We can make a difference in their life and as a community we will be stronger by helping those who need help.”

Approximately 700 runners and walkers participated in the previous Run for the Cure in Regina, and Nagy said a similar number is expected this year. His pledge total had reached $3,442 as of Sept. 18, and he said his goal is to “raise as much as we can to put Canora on the map.”

CIBC has pledged to match donations up to $500,000, so essentially the impact of pledges will be doubled.

At his Run for the Cure pledge page, Nagy states:

“We can make a difference by every donation, no matter how big or small.

“An estimated 27,700 women and 260 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada. To show my support for all Canadians impacted by breast cancer, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, Oct. 1.

“With your help, I can reach my fundraising goal and make a life-changing difference for so many people. Every dollar I raise will fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and support programs and services for those impacted by this disease.

“Please donate today. I believe better treatment options and survival outcomes are possible. Together, we can give Canadians impacted by breast cancer a reason to have hope. And we can help change the future for all. Thank you! I appreciate your generous support.

“P.S. Did you know? Fundraising $300 can fund help provide healthy home-cooked meals for guests at a Canadian Cancer Society lodge during their stay. Lodge guests receive wholesome foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, and meals customized to their dietary needs including those arising from cancer treatment, like liquid and soft food diets.”

Nagy encourages anyone who is interested in making a donation to come see him at CIBC in Canora, or visit the “Run for the Cure” website. There, scroll down to the bottom of the page to “find a participant” and enter Aaron Nagy, then click “donate now.”
