CANORA - Seven student/athletes from Canora Composite School made the trip to Saskatoon for provincials in track-and-field on June 7-8, along with coaches Thomas Lowes and Leona Kitchen.
Among the highlights were personal bests, multiple top-ten finishes and a bronze medal.
Taye Shukin won a bronze medal in senior boys tetrathlon by collecting 2,461 points, and was a member of the 4x100m relay team that came in fourth.
Briel Beblow placed 17th in junior boys javelin with a throw of 35.46m and eighth in shot put with a throw of 11m.
In intermediate girls hurdles, Danielle Dutchak placed 13th out of 28 hurdlers with a time of 14.81 sec
Kaelyn Shukin finished 11th out of 28 in intermediate girls 3,000m with a time of 13:05.
Jordan Makowsky placed 19th in junior boys discus with a throw of 24.67m, and 25th in javelin with a throw of 29.55m.
Porter Wolkowski placed 22nd in senior boys discus with a throw of 26.80m
In senior boys high jump, Matthew Makowsky finished 21st by reaching a height of 1.60m.
“We had an absolutely fantastic two days in Saskatoon,” reported the coaches. “As coaches, our job is to open the door to new opportunities, but ultimately the athletes have to embrace the challenge. These athletes absolutely embraced the challenge. There are so many great life lessons to learn from sport, and we are so proud of our students!”
