Team Canada skip Joshua Bryden at the FISU World University Winter Games

Josh Bryden and his Canadian team have finished fourth place at the FISU World University Winter Games after falling 6-1 to Switzerland in Wednesday’s bronze medal game.

After losing to the United States 8-4 in a semi-final on Tuesday, Bryden, who finished the round-robin with a record of 5-4, played Jan Iseli and his 5-4 Switzerland team.

The bronze medal game was the second meeting between the teams this week, as they faced each other in the opening draw, a game that Canada won 7-5.

Bryden earned the last rock advantage to start the game on Wednesday but was unable to capitalize.

The teams blanked the first end before Iseli stole a pair of points in the second end. The Swiss extended their lead, stealing single points in the third and fourth end, for a 4-1 lead entering the mid-game break.

In the fifth end, Bryden would get on the board, scoring a single point with his hammer, but the momentum was short-lived. In the sixth end, Switzerland responded with a single of their own with the last rock.

In the seventh end, with Bryden pressing, the Swiss stole another point for a 6-1 lead. At that point, Bryden conceded the match, giving Switzerland the bronze medal.
