Veterans Ombudsman Colonel (retired) Nishika Jardine is in Saskatchewan meeting the veterans’ community this week, with the town halls occurring in Regina on June 18, Moose Jaw on June 19 and Saskatoon on June 20.

The town halls will provide an opportunity for the veterans ombud to hear the concerns of the veterans’ community, and to share information on the work of the Office of the Veterans Ombud (OVO), as well as its priorities for the future. Veterans and serving Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) members, survivors, families, and friends are invited to attend.

“I am looking forward to connecting with the Veterans community of Saskatchewan and learning more about the challenges they face,” said Jardine.

“Hearing directly from veterans and serving CAF and RCMP members and their families about their experience and obstacles they face with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) is vital for our office to understand and meet the needs of Veterans when issues arise,” she continued. “These town halls provide us the opportunity to do so first-hand.”

The town hall in Moose Jaw occurs on Wednesday, June 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 59 at 268 High Street West.

The OVO reviews complaints and challenges the policies and decisions of VAC where it finds individual or systemic unfairness. It strives to be an independent and respected voice for fairness and a champion for the well-being of Veterans and their families.

If you are a serving CAF member, RCMP member, Veteran, family member or representative and you feel you have been treated unfairly by VAC, or you would like information about programs and services, the OVO is here to help.
