SWIFT CURRENT — A fundraising campaign has been launched to help a young farmer rebuild after a devastating barn fire claimed her goats and livestock guardian dogs.

Allie Buffone, who moved to Saskatchewan in 2023 to start a new life, lost her barn and animals in the Feb. 21 fire at her farm in Rosenhof, near Swift Current. A , started by her friend Normand, has raised $530 of its $15,000 goal as of publication time.

Buffone and her fiancé had been raising meat goats as a source of farm income and relied on their guardian dog, Ruger, to protect the herd. The fire destroyed everything.

“All our hours of planning, time we put in, all our hard work was for nothing,” Buffone said. “I am struggling deeply and don’t even know where to begin picking up the pieces.”

Adding to the hardship, insurance will not cover the cost of rebuilding the barn, leaving Buffone and her fiancé without the resources to start over.

“She is a good person and is a mess after losing her goats and dogs,” Normand wrote. “Anyone who knows Allie knows that her goats meant the world to her.”
