MOOSE JAW -- The most exciting time of the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association basketball season has arrived.
Teams from throughout the province will be taking the court in the regional playdowns, with the top four from each division advancing to the Hoopla provincial championship tournament in Saskatoon during the Mar. 21 weekend.
Moose Jaw teams will host three regionals beginning Friday afternoon.
The reigning city champion and defending SHSAA champion Central Cyclones will host the 4A boys regional as the top seed in the province.
The Cyclones open the tournament at 2:45 p.m. Friday against 16-seed Notre Dame at Central, while eight-seed Melville will take on nine-seed Meadow Lake at 4:30 p.m. The winner of those games will play for a spot in Hoopla at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
The provincial third-seed Cyclones will also host their 4A girls regional, as they take on Kindersley at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Central. Six-seed North Battleford John Paul II faces 11-seed Regina Johnson in the other regional semifinal, with the title game taking place at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
The 4A girls four-seed Vanier Spirits will host 14-seed Martensville in their regional opener at 6 p.m. Five-seed Melville and 12-seed Humboldt play at 8 p.m., and the two winners play for their Hoopla berth at 1 p.m.
Eight-seed Briercrest Christian Academy is in Wynyard for their 3A girls regional, and the seven-seed Peacock Toilers are in Estevan for the 5A girls regional.
The second-seed Peacock Toilers will be in action in North Battleford for their 5A boys regional.
The entry fee is $5 for students and $7 for adults per day.
