Report looks at parks and recreation's third-quarter activities

Data about the Kinsmen Sportsplex Pool, the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool, the Yara Centre, cemeteries, and service requests was contained in a recent city council report.

MOOSE JAW — The Kinsmen Sportsplex Pool and the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool both saw an increase in attendance during the third quarter of this year compared to previous years, new data shows.

From July 1 to Sept. 30, the indoor pool had 30,842 people use the venue, compared to 28,348 in 2023, 28,707 in 2022 and 25,436 in 2021, according to a third-quarter report that was presented during a recent city council meeting.

Furthermore, during Q3, the outdoor pool had 8,239 people access the venue, compared to 7,597 in 2023, 12,015 in 2022 and 6,602 in 2021.

Meanwhile, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, a total of 92,869 people used the indoor pool, compared to 89,660 in 2023, 78,007 in 2022 and 49,794 in 2021.

Furthermore, during the same period, a total of 13,018 people used the outdoor pool, compared to 12,265 in 2023, 16,340 in 2022 and 9,765 in 2021.

Yara Centre

During Q3, 894 people used the Yara Centre’s turf, compared to 155 in 2023, 490 in 2022 and 451 in 2021, the report showed.

Meanwhile, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, a total of 11,880 people used the venue’s turf, compared to 11,442 in 2023, 16,901 in 2022 and 2,751 in 2021.

Furthermore, 11,518 people dropped into the Yara Centre during Q3 for various activities, compared to 10,221 in 2023, 8,329 in 2022 and 6,745 in 2021.

Meanwhile, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, a total of 52,760 people dropped into the venue, compared to 50,943 in 2023, 37,237 in 2022 and 36,423 in 2021.

Cemeteries

There were seven traditional/regular burials at the Rosedale Cemetery during the third quarter, compared to 15 in 2023, 18 in 2022 and 10 in 2021, the data showed.

Meanwhile, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, there were 27 total regular/traditional burials, compared to 34 in 2023, 47 in 2022 and 31 in 2021.

Conversely, during Q3, there were 47 cremation burials, compared to 59 in 2023, 59 in 2022 and 71 in 2021. Moreover, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, there were 107 cremation burials, compared to 106 in 2023, 148 in 2022 and 109 in 2021.

Requests for service

The parks and recreation branch received 466 requests for service during the third quarter — forestry had the most inquiries with 265, followed by parks/green spaces with 126 — and resolved 302 service requests for a completion rate of 65 per cent, the report showed.

In comparison, in Q3 2023, the branch received 402 service requests and resolved 251 of them for a completion rate of 62 per cent.

Meanwhile, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, the parks and recreation branch received 956 total requests for service — forestry the most with 501 inquiries and parks/greenspaces second with 265 — and resolved 728 requests for a completion rate of 76 per cent, the report continued.

In comparison, during the same period in 2023, the branch received 933 service requests and resolved 656 for a completion rate of 70 per cent.

The next city council meeting is Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.
