The 68-year-old adult male passenger was declared deceased at the scene.
WHITE BUTTE - Update Sept. 27, 3:58 p.m.: Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the Highway 1 Regina bypass on the east side of the city.
On Sept. 27 at approximately 8:30 a.m., White Butte RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision.
Officers responded and determined an eastbound SUV and eastbound semi collided. An adult female driver and adult male passenger – both from Weyburn – were the two occupants of the SUV. The 68-year-old adult male passenger was declared deceased at the scene. His family has been notified. The adult female driver was transported to hospital with unknown injuries.
The adult male driver of the semi reported no physical injuries to police.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were reduced to one lane for initial investigation but both lanes are now open.
White Butte RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
Drivers ticketed for cellphone use
Police wish to note that five drivers were issued tickets by police for driving without due care and attention for using a cellphone while driving past this collision scene. While the monetary cost of this ticket ranges from $580-$2,100, what’s most important is that driving while using a cellphone is extremely dangerous – for the driver, passengers and everyone else in the area. These actions can put the lives of first responders at risk. People are asked to remember "the immense impacts capturing these vulnerable and sensitive moments can have on loved ones and people involved in collisions."

On Sept. 27 at approximately 8:30 a.m., White Butte RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the Highway 1 Regina bypass on the east side of the city. As this investigation is in the preliminary stages, police do not have any additional details at this time.
The eastbound traffic on Highway 1 is reduced to one lane. Motorists should expect delays in the area. Police ask them to slow down and follow the instructions of emergency personnel on the scene.
