Officer injured following assault in Regina

A struggle ensued, leading the officer to sustain a wrist injury.

REGINA - Three people have been charged following an assault of a police officer in Regina.

On Dec. 10 at approximately 8 p.m., police were dispatched for the report of a break and enter on the 1100 block of Cameron Street. Information received indicated the suspects attempted to enter the residence through a window, before fleeing the scene. The victim provided a description of the suspects and their vehicle.

A short while later, officers located the vehicle travelling southbound on Cameron Street and conducted a traffic stop. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver exited and attempted to evade on foot. Despite several commands to stop, the suspect did not comply and swung at the arresting officer. A struggle ensued, leading the officer to sustain a wrist injury.

Further investigation was conducted and revealed a loaded firearm in the vehicle.

As a result, a 24 year-old man, from Regina, is charged with: possession of an unauthorized firearm; possession of a loaded or restricted firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; possession of a firearm or ammunition x 6; resisting arrest; mischief under $5,000; assaulting a peace officer; and careless storage of a firearm.

A 41-year-old man, from Regina, is charged with: possession of an unauthorized firearm; possession of a loaded or restricted firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; possession of a firearm or ammunition x2; and careless storage of a firearm.

A 33-year-old woman, from Regina, is charged with: possession of an unauthorized firearm; possession of a loaded or restricted firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; possession of a firearm or ammunition x2; careless storage of a firearm.

The accused will make their first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.
