The Trinity Lutheran Church closed recently after serving Regina for over 100 years.

REGINA - The Hawk Principle, a community-driven initiative, is hosting a fundraiser on Friday as they hope to establish a 24/7 connection centre.

The fundraiser, called "Down with the King," will take place at 8 p.m. at the former Trinity Lutheran Church (TLC) on Ottawa St., "with music and laughter to benefit the community initiatives", the group said.

Additionally, throughout the month of Feb., The Hawk Principle is running a campaign, "If Not Here, then WHERE?," which is focusing on fundraising efforts and community outreach. The group is hoping to secure $1 million in funding to continue building their efforts.

The Hawk Principle has been using the former church to shelter residents for the last few weeks between Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

However, the church has been sold, making it unclear where Hawk Principle will land after Feb.

Their aim is to establish a "community centre that treats everyone with dignity and provides access to housing options," according to a news release.

The Hawk Principle also mentioned the community centre would focus on improving food security, organizing activities and programs, enhancing community engagement, and expanding support networks while raising awareness.
