35 years later, the École Polytechnique Massacre is being remembered by Regina

The incident took place on Dec. 6, 1989, when a shooter killed 14 women and injured countless others.

Regina has lowered its flag to remember those who lost their lives due to gender-based violence.

REGINA - The 14 women whose lives were lost at the École Polytechnique in Montreal are being honoured today by the City of Regina.

The tragedy took place on Dec. 6, 1989, and is a reminder for residents about gender-based violence.

In a statement, Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski said, "This anniversary is not only a time for remembrance but also a call to action. Let's reaffirm our commitment to creating a society where everyone can live free from violence and discrimination."

The city wants to use the memory of the victims to build a safer and more inclusive area.

In marking the occasion, Regina has lowered its flags to honour the women and people who have experienced gender-based violence.
