MOOSE JAW — The sweet aroma of fresh baking welcomed visitors to Minto United Church as the United Church Women (UCW) hosted its annual Easter craft and bake sale recently.
Roughly 60 guests filled the church hall for the spring tradition, which featured tables of homemade goodies, a sit-down tea service, and a chance to reconnect after a long winter.
The event, organized each year by the UCW, serves both as a fundraiser and a seasonal celebration.
“We have one (of these craft and bake sales) every year,” said Vivian Wilson, convener of the bake team for the UCW. “This year we’re serving angel food cake or white cake with strawberries and whipped cream, and we have a very large baking table.”
Wilson, a long-time member of the UCW who has attended the event for the past 63 years, said the spring festivity has been a staple at Minto United Church for decades.
The craft and bake sale offered a wide assortment of handmade goods and sweet treats — continuing a long-standing tradition.
“Everything is homemade,” said Janice Coward, president of the UCW. The goods were baked by “our members of the UCW, and… ladies from the congregation as well,” she added.
Coward, who also worked at the bake table during the sale, said the community support continues to be strong — despite a trend of declining church attendance over the years.
Though the church’s future may be uncertain — — organizers expressed their gratitude to all who attended and helped bring the event to life once again.
“I just want to thank everyone for coming in and buying our wonderful baking,” said Coward.
