CALGARY -- The Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors are into the quarter-final at the Circle K Classic.
The Warriors scored four goals in the first period and never looked back on their way to a 7-3 win over the Calgary Northstars in their final round robin game on Sunday night.
As a result, Moose Jaw finishes with a 2-1 record and in second place in their round robin pool, advancing to the A side quarter-finals on Monday.
Things went well for the Warriors right off the hop against Calgary, as Ryan Gibbs and Elias Haukeness each scored in the game’s first 10 minutes for the quick 2-0 lead.
The Northstars would rally back with goals from Hayden Schollar and Christopher Wright 1:06 apart midway through the first, but Carson Park and Maxon Johnston would reply for Moose Jaw before the period was out.
Gage Nagel then made it a 5-2 Warriors lead 28 seconds into the second period, with Calgary getting one back only 1:28 later when Austin Bruce hit the scoresheet.
That would be as close as the Northstars would get, though, as Carson Deichert scored at the 4:20 mark of the final period and Jonah Pinel wrapped up scoring in the contest 5:29 later.
Deichert, Pinel and Johnston each finished with two points in the game while Tyler Hudec and Keaton Lesperance picked up two assists each.
Luke McKechnie got the start in goal for Moose Jaw and had 23 saves, the Warriors had 26 shots on Kason Kobelka through 49:49 and a further three shots on Holden Murphy the remainder of the game.
Moose Jaw will now wait for the remainder of the round robin to wrap up to find out their quarter-final opponent, with that game taking place Monday. The winner there advances to the semifinal on Tuesday, followed by the championship game on Wednesday.
