Team China’s Xiaoming Xu watches the line on a shot during action from Draw 8 at the World Men’s Curling Championship on Monday evening. China is one of four teams tied for first heading into play Tuesday.

MOOSE JAW -- Scotland might be an exceptional team at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, but even David Mouat’s impressive foursome aren’t immune to an onerous turnaround while playing against the best rinks in the world.

Barely an hour after their epic extra end win over Canada’s Brad Jacobs in Draw 7 at Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw on Monday night, Mouat was back on the ice against Czechia’s Lukas Klima for Draw 8, and it’s safe to say things didn’t go as well.

Klima and his rink of third Marek Cernovsky, second Martin Jurik and lead Lukas Klipa scored two in the third end, stole another the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 5-1 lead and then tacked on three more in the seventh to take an 8-2 victory and create a logjam at the top of the tournament standings.

With China’s Xu Xiaoming taking an 11-10 win over Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz and Norway’s Marcus Ramsfjell holding off Italy’s Joel Retornaz for a 9-8 victory in the same draw, four teams are now tied for first place at 4-1.

Scotland, China, Norway and Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller all sit in first place heading into play Tuesday, with Canada and Sweden’s Niklas Edin right behind them at 3-1.

The other contest in Draw 8 saw Japan’s Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi finally face a team that doesn’t have a prior world championship under its belt, and they’d battle to a 9-7 win over Austria’s Mathias Genner, who remain winless in the tournament.

Standings after Draw 8 are as follows:

China (Xu) 4-1
Norway (Ramsfjell) 4-1
Scotland (Mouat) 4-1
Switzerland (Schwaller) 4-1
Canada (Jacobs) 4-1
Sweden (Edin) 3-1
Czechia (Klima) 3-2
United States (Dropkin) 2-2
Italy (Retornaz) 2-3
Germany (Muskatewitz) 1-4
Japan (Yamaguchi) 1-4
Austria (Genner) 0-5
Korea (Kim) 0-5

Canada is back on the ice for two draws on Tuesday, as they take on Sweden in another marquee match-up at 9 a.m. before facing former world bronze medalist Italy at 7 p.m.
