The Broadway musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, is being staged by the Spirit Singers as a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Rehearsals are now underway for the musical, and performances will be in the evenings of Friday, Feb. 23; Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m., with a matinee also on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
The Spirit Singers, a nine-member singing group of Grades 11 and 12 students at Grace United Church include Jyllian Payak, Brinlee Klapak, Brittany Barber, Calla Hrynewich, Natalie Butz, Donald Alexander, Camden Husband, Tauren Jack and Emerson Jack.
Alexander plays the main role of Charlie Brown; Payak plays Sally, Klapak plays Lucy, Tauren Jack plays Linus, Hrynewich is Snoopy, and Husband is Schroeder, with the scenes based on the Charlie Brown comics by Charles M. Schulz.
Members of the chorus include Lila Anderson, Brittany Barber, Ryan Hansen, Emerson Jack, Natalie Butz, Pressley Barber and Isabelle Cugnet.
Director Kendra Gonczy is an alumnus of the U of S Greystone Singers, and they extended an invitation for her join them to sing at Carnegie Hall. She asked if she could bring her oldest choir of singers, the Spirit Singers, and they agreed.
The group will head down for five days at the end of May for two days of rehearsals, and then will take part in the concert on the stage. There will be 100 singers in the Saskatchewan choir and there will be two other choirs of the same size performing during the concert as well.
