Terrence “Terry” Worthy Pierce

Terrence “Terry” Worthy Pierce, late of Weyburn, passed away March 19, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Terry was predeceased by his parents: Worthy and Anna Pierce; father- and mother-in-law: Ed and Blenda Raknerud; brother- and sister-in-law: Gordon and Delores Raknerud; brother-in-law: Al Wickman; foster sister: Winnie Wanner. Terry is survived by his wife of 63 years Marlene; son Marence (Charlene): Worthy (Krista Reinfelds); Terry (Sarah): Jayla, Hanna, Rhett; Kari (Dustin) Rouse; daughters: Nancy Kopec: Ron (Vanna): Hunter, Houston, Branson, Bowen Kopec and Zoe and Connor Brooks; Michelle Sabourin, Brodie; Gary (Sheena): Wylie, Mekhi, Brinley; Tracy, Jacia and Preston; Susan (Dwight Achen): Mike Church (Jennelle Periard); Sarah (Dustin) Satre: Kitchener; brother Clayton (Ruth) Pierce; sisters: Gail (Tom) Minard, Sonya (Jim) Ennis, Ann Weiler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born on August 20, 1930 in Weyburn, at the Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.  He was the first born to Worthy and Anna. He became a big brother five years later when Clayton was born. Worthy and Anna took in over 50 foster children over the years. Obviously Dad inherited his patience from his parents. Dad attended 鶹ýAV Weyburn School and Meadowbrook School. He helped on the family farm. Dad held jobs including draying coal for Gizzie Hart,  helped build the Soo Theatre, bar tender at the Soo Hotel for Tony Brazenas, mechanic for Hume and Johnson, which ironically is the same building we call Terry’s Cycle today, though it was located on First Avenue 鶹ýAV. Dad and his partner, Clarence Meis, ran the Four Corner’s Texaco (where 7-11 is today). Later Clarence and Dad ran two separate businesses, Dad the Highway Service (was beside the original Elmer’s Service on Government Road) and Clarence, the Highway Wrecking (now the Chip 9 building on highway 39).  Dad sold the Highway Service building around late 1967, shortly after he opened Terry’s Repair. In 1969, Dad moved the building to its current location, 517 Government Road S. They originally sold “Sno-Jet” and were awarded “Dealer of the Year” for three straight years. In 1971 they took on Yamaha and Dad was awarded Top Ten finish in a Canada wide Yamaha Sales competition in 1974. They earned many sales awards trips. Dad’s gifted abilities as a mechanic, welder, electrician, plumber, and carpenter were all self-taught. He attained his journeyman’s mechanic certificate. In 1950 while hauling coal he met Marlene Raknerud. They were married June 29, 1952 and welcomed their first born, Marence, October, 1953. Nancy and Susan completed the family. In Dad’s younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Dad and Uncle Mike Litovitch also had a trap line that helped to make ends meet during the early years that Dad and Mom farmed. Dad worked hard to provided for his family but still found time to be the best Dad in the world. In 1958 Dad and Mom built a home together on Second Avenue. Dad taught Mom the importance of exact measuring. The family grew to nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Dad loved and spoiled his grandchildren.  They called him “Grandpa Yes.” In 1991 Dad suffered a heart attack and had a valve replaced plus a quadruple bypass done. We are so fortunate God blessed us with another 24 years for Dad to share his wisdom with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad was moved to Tatagwa View in November 2015. He made new friends, enjoyed visiting and also loved teasing the nurses. Dad will be remembered for his smile, patience, kindness and honesty. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, March 30, at 2:00 pm from the Knox Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ron Kopec, Mike Church, Worthy Pierce, Michelle Sabourin, Terry Pierce, Sarah Satre, Gary Kopec, Kari Rouse, Tracy Kopec. Lunch will be held at the Knox Hall, Weyburn. Interment to be at a later date.
