Millicent “Janet” Hanson passed away peacefully Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the age of 80 years. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Mary Vaughan; husband, Harvey Hanson; brothers, Jack (Doreen) Vaughan and Robert Vaughan; sisters, Shirley (Ron) Torgunrud and Fern (Des) Matthews; brothers and sister-in-law, Don (Gladys) Hanson, Anne Hanson and Brian Paul and nieces, Melanie Hanson and Kelly Paul and nephew, Bruce Torgunrud. Janet was born and raised in Bromhead, and was the youngest of five children born to Mel and Mary Vaughan. She attended elementary school as well as high school in Bromhead. For some time following graduation from high school Janet went to work in Regina. She married Harvey Hanson, her high school sweetheart, in Bromhead, December 17, 1955 in the middle of a prairie blizzard. The wedding was a double wedding with her sister, Shirley. After a few moves around the province they settled in Weyburn, where they stayed and raised their family. Harvey and Janet went on to have three children, Wayne, Shannon and Patty. She was a homemaker for a number of years until the children were all in their high school years. At that time Janet started full-time work at the Weyburn Nursing Home until her retirement, spending most of her time working in the recreation area. In her free time Janet enjoyed spending time with family and friends, knitting, crocheting, jig-saw puzzles, puzzle books and watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She was also active in the Zion Lutheran Church in the women’s circles and singing on the worship team. However Janet’s biggest interest and joy in her life was her six grandchildren. Janet will be lovingly remembered by her son, Wayne (Carol) Hanson of Calgary, AB; daughter, Shannon Hanson of Saskatoon; daughter, Patty (Don) Goertzen of Regina; grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsey and Breanna Goertzen and Jennifer, Angela and Chris Hanson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sheryn Vaughan, DeWayne Hanson, Verna Paul, Wes (Linda) Hanson, Shirley (David) Lidbury and Merlin (Nita) Hanson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
