Weyburn woman realizes dream with new business venture

Galilee Regines and her family celebrated the opening of Meok Ja Milk Tea Bar in Weyburn on Saturday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Marcel Roy

WEYBURN – Galilee Regines and her family celebrated the opening of Meok Ja Milk Tea Bar in Weyburn on Saturday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Marcel Roy and Coun. Laura Morrissette, and many friends.

She told those gathered this was the realization of a long-held dream, since she was a teenager who wanted a place like this where they could hang out with their best friends.

Galilee noted she had moved to Edmonton for four years, and "all it gave me was sadness and homesickness. When I moved back to Weyburn, I realized how beautiful Weyburn is."

The inside of the building features art, showing scenes from Weyburn and Saskatchewan sites, done mostly by her mother and father, Sarah and Elias. The art includes the "Cu-tea" corner where children can play, and features a model and a drawing of Weyburn's water tower.

By the till is a "Bes-Tea" wall, where besties can post photos of themselves at the milk tea bar.

The family had held a soft opening of the milk tea bar a week before, and there were so many people inside the building they had to shut the doors for a time, restock and then reopened again with a 10-person limit for the business. Dad Elias said they hadn't realized how much support there was from Weyburn for such a business.

"This is my dream - this is Meok Ja," said Galilee just prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
