Warren Steinley, Member of Parliament for Regina-Lewvan, responded on July 9 to the Liberal government鈥檚 Economic and Fiscal Snapshot and the fact that Justin Trudeau has no plan to help workers or guide Canada through the economic recovery.

鈥淩esidents and business owners in this community continue to tell me they are concerned and anxious for the future, wondering how Canada鈥檚 economy is going to recover on the other side of this pandemic,鈥 Steinley said.

鈥淐anada鈥檚 Conservatives have repeatedly pushed the Liberals to deliver an economic update. The economic 鈥榮napshot鈥 we finally received confirms what we already knew 鈥 Justin Trudeau has no plan to guide us through the recovery.鈥

The Liberal government鈥檚 Economic and Fiscal Snapshot confirmed the deficit has exploded to $343 billion and that the total net federal debt will hit over $1 trillion this year.

It鈥檚 clear that under Justin Trudeau, Canada is falling behind.

We have the highest unemployment in the G7. We are the only G7 country to lose its AAA credit rating. And we are the only G7 country without a recovery plan.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Justin Trudeau has been either wrong or slow to act. His failures have cost Canadians 鈥 from being slow to close our borders, slow to rollout aid programs, wrong in not fixing the gaps in them and wrong to raise taxes on Canadians, who were already struggling to make ends meet.

Canadians can鈥檛 afford for Justin Trudeau to be wrong when it comes to our economic recovery.

鈥淛ustin Trudeau鈥檚 track record proves that he cannot be trusted to lead Canada through the recovery,鈥 said Steinley. 鈥淗is sky-high taxes, wasteful spending and massive deficits put Canada in an incredibly weak position before the pandemic ever began.鈥

Conservatives have always supported getting help for Canadians who need it. In fact, we proposed the Back to Work Bonus, our plan to make the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) more flexible and generous, so that workers can earn higher wages as businesses gradually reopen.

鈥淗anding out billions of dollars to Justin Trudeau鈥檚 Liberal friends and insiders won鈥檛 restart our economy, but that鈥檚 exactly what he continues to do,鈥 Steinley said. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud that Conservatives are focusing on getting workers and businesses back on their feet, while continuing to push Justin Trudeau for a transparent plan to guide Canada鈥檚 recovery. The good people of Regina-Lewvan deserve no less.鈥
