I know that I speak for our entire committee, when I say the hugest thank you to all of my media friends. We appreciate your support for this entire project - from supporting our nomination, to the vote day, to helping us create a tremendous buzz around our tour.
Without your support, we could not have come as far as we did. When we promised Kraft and TSN that we thought we could bring in 2,000 people, we knew we had a lot of work to do to fulfil that promise. Thank you for helping us live up to that promise! You made my job as media relations and marketing for the tour easy and fun.
In all of my community involvement, I have always felt the support of the media in Estevan. Thanks for helping us do what we feel we need to do to make this a great community. You are all a testament to the fact that you are local media and care about the community as much as we do. Thank you for your enthusiasm and professionalism.
Kraft and TSN were so impressed with the reception that they received in our community. They saw the welcome signs immediately when they arrived in Estevan and knew from that moment forward that this was going to be a great stop.
In the wrap up, our event co-ordinator estimated that we had 2,500 people in attendance. The Riderville committee estimates we gave out 3,000 hot dogs and most of the 4,000 bottles of water we purchased.
The TSN folks received an e-mail from Toronto immediately after the taping and said that it was "the best crowd ever - not just this year, but in their three years!" We showed them what Saskatchewan hospitality and spirit is all about.
In the words of Michael Ball - tough times come and go, but tough people stick around.
