Show some energy on snow removal

The Editor, I travel into Estevan daily to attend school, this is my first winter driving experience here. I previously heard stories about the terrible winter conditions of the streets in this city, however I did not believe them, until now.

The Editor,

I travel into Estevan daily to attend school, this is my first winter driving experience here. I previously heard stories about the terrible winter conditions of the streets in this city, however I did not believe them, until now.

What kind of city does not have designated snow routes? Emergency routes? Does this city not have snow clearing capabilities? How about sanding? I'm shocked SGI doesn't have something to say about the lack of safe driving

conditions here after a snowstorm. I was surprised to hear Estevan come on the news to say suck it up. Is the City going to pay for any damage to my vehicle from the ruts or from a fender bender because of the difficulty controlling a vehicle in the ice ruts?

Do the citizens here just tolerate this because of the what can I do syndrome, otherwise there should be an outcry from the citizens demanding that the streets get cleaned up. As a taxpayer I would not tolerate such incompetence for my money.

The longest season is winter and any Western Canadian town or city should have the budget and plan in place for winter conditions including storms.

The storm that hit this area (Tuesday, Oct. 26) and most of North America was forecasted well in advance so city council should have had a plan in place and time frame for implementation. I drive into the city today (Thursday, Oct. 28) and the ruts and ice on the main thoroughfare were a shock and very dangerous and not a plow or sanding truck to be seen. What are the streets like three months into winter?

Estevan, the Energy City, should put some energy into snow removal and make their streets somewhat safe.

A very sad situation.
